Communities of NEPA including West Pittston, Wilkes-Barre, Pittston, Exeter, Plymouth and Nanticoke that were hit by record flooding are still having a difficult time recovering. Particularly hard hit are those residents and businesses which did not have flood insurance. Record water levels set by Hurricane Agnes 39 years ago in 1972 are shattered in many NEPA communities along the Susqquhanna river. Wilkes-Barre's latest crest was 42.66 feet, thats 21 inches higher than Agnes. Similar records are set in West Pittston, West Nanticoke, Exeter and Plymouth.
Bloomsburg, home of the well known Bloomsburg Fair, saw the Susquehanna crest at a record 32.75 feet. The Bloomsburg Fair, which has been held annually since 1855, was cancelled for the first time in 156 years.
